Beginning this month, we will be sharing a President's Update following the last Village Board meeting of the month to help keep residents informed about important projects, events, and community updates.

This month's update is longer than future updates will typically be, as there are several significant topics affecting the Village, including June Days, the Highway 213 reconstruction project, development updates, and information recently received from the Wisconsin DOT.

We appreciate your patience with the length of this post and encourage residents to take a few minutes to read through the update. Staying informed helps all of us better understand the projects, improvements, and decisions that impact our community.

The Village extends its sincere appreciation to Tori Baars, Darla Grenawalt, Vickie Marchant, and all volunteers whose dedicated efforts over the past year contributed to another successful June Days Celebration. The Police Department and Department of Public Works employees also provided important assistance with setup, event support, teardown, and cleanup throughout the weekend. The Village also thanks everyone who supported the Fire Department’s pancake breakfast on Sunday morning. State Representatives Clinton Anderson and Mark Spreitzer were in attendance, and their continued engagement with our local community is greatly appreciated.

As residents may be aware, Hwy 213 through the Village is scheduled for reconstruction this summer. The project will also include selected sidewalk, curb and gutter, and stormwater sewer replacements. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is responsible for the driving lanes and certain intersection improvements, which will be funded by the state. The Village of Orfordville is responsible for the parking lanes, as well as curb, gutter, and sidewalk repairs. During construction, motorists should anticipate travel delays and follow the directions of flaggers. Access to local businesses will be maintained; however, downtown parking will be affected. Additional parking is available on North Center Street near the Fire Station and behind Village Hall. The Village appreciates residents’ and visitors’ patience during this project and looks forward to improved travel conditions through downtown upon completion. The project is currently slightly behind schedule because the roundabout installation at Hwy 81 and County T near Brodhead has not yet been completed. That route will serve as part of the detour when the Hwy 213 project begins and must be open to traffic before work can proceed. The Village has not yet received a start date from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, but updates will be shared as additional information becomes available.

In the future, Hwy 213 is expected to be reconstructed from Burton Street in Beloit to County K on the east side of Orfordville. This work is anticipated to include a roundabout at the Beloit-Newark Q and Hwy 213 intersection. Hwy 213 north of Hwy 11 is also expected to be reconstructed to the intersection of Hwy 59 and West Ahara Road south of Evansville. The state will provide project updates as information becomes available at this site: https://projects.511wi.gov/

The Rime Ridge development continues to progress. Final paving within the development is scheduled to be completed by Next Generation this summer. The final layer was delayed to ensure the road base is stable and to allow any problem areas to be addressed before paving is completed. Rime Street, from the new pavement near Comfort Cove to Pine Street, will be repaved after repairs are made to the road base in the low section. Delaying this work until this year was determined to be in the Village’s best interest so the repair could be completed properly and provide a solid foundation.
