Prohibiting Parking on S. Center Street. Chief Burdick explained that he brought this up to the Police Committee as he has been receiving complaints on the parking on S. Center Street. Chief Burdick explained that there are a lot of cars on the street which is narrow to start with. President Burtness explained that he too has received a complaint. President Burtness added that all of the homes on the street have long driveways, so it shouldn’t be an issue for the homeowners. Chief Burdick explained that there is also parking available down by the railroad tracks. Chief Burdick further added that some of the residents are having issues with backing out of their driveways, as the cars are parked too close to driveways, or they are parked directly behind another driveway.
Anna Johnson of 107 S. Center Street was present. Anna Johnson explained that they do not have room in their driveway if all four kids are home at the same time. Anna Johnson added that they are able to back up a truck and trailer with no issues at their house.
Cory Johnson asked if the board had other options. Chief Burdick explained that the Village also has to be concerned with access for emergency vehicles.
DPW Director Todd explained that he can determine the no parking area at the Walnut intersection based on the radius requirement.
Morris explained that the issue seems to be on the south end of the street and not the entire street. Additional discussion on allowing parking but marking parking stalls placed so that parked cars do not create an issue for residents backing out of their driveway.
DPW Director Todd explained that he would like to bring a map to the next meeting so the specific stalls for allowed parking are defined.
Anna Johnson felt that marked stalls with less parking is a good compromise.
Chief Burdick suggested that the curbs where there will not be parking allowed be painted yellow and the stalls markings where parking will be allowed be also painted in yellow.
Motion by Morris, seconded by Gerber to table to the July 28, 2025 meeting to allow time for DPW Director Todd to bring a drawing showing where parking can be allowed on S. Center Street. Motion carried.
