CALL TO ORDER

                President Dennis Burtness called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Present were President Burtness, Beth Schmidt, Nick Howard, Nikki Tuffree, Terry Morris, and Tory Baars.  Also present were Greg & Carol Luezinger, Librarian Sarah Strunz, Chief Jeremiah Burdick, and Clerk Sherri Waege.  Absent was David Olsen.

AGENDA VERIFICATION

                Clerk Waege verified that on May 8, 2026, copies of the agenda were delivered to the President and Trustees; and posted at the Village Hall, Library, and the Post Office.  There were no additions made to the agenda.

MINUTE APPROVAL

                Motion by Morris, seconded by Howard to approve the April 27, 2026 minutes.  Motion carried.

CITIZENS WISHING TO BE HEARD

                Tuffree  stated that she would like to recognize Clerk Sherri Waege and Deputy Clerk Laura Wickstrum during Municipal Clerk’s Week.   Tuffree further recognized Chief Burdick and the Police Officers for Peace Officers Week.

                None.

NEW BUSINESS

                Operator License. Motion by Morris, seconded by Baars to accept the Police Committee Recommendation to grant an Operator License to expire June 30, 2027 to Henry Maas.  Motion carried.

                Drainage Concern on Olson Drive.  Greg and Carol Luezinger of 305 Olson Drive were present regarding the drainage from the large storm on April 16th.   Greg Luezinger explained that their yard was completely flooded from rain and corn stalks.  Greg Luezinger explained that there is an ongoing problem with the vacant lot across the street from them, which backs up to the corn field.  Greg Luezinger explained that the water has created a large trench that is funneling the water towards his property.  Greg Luezinger further stated that it took them two days to pick up all of the corn stalks which were also embedded in their chain link fence in the back yard.  Greg Luezinger further explained that the drainage from the corn field is also a problem in the winter. 

                President Burtness explained that the farmer cannot change the natural flow of the water.  President Burtness further explained that the farmer leaves the corn stalks in the field to hold the dirt in place.   President Burtness explained that the spring chemicals were applied to the field prior to the rain event which loosened all of the stalks.

                Greg Luezinger asked the board to come look at the lot across from him so they can see all of the stalks and the trench from the runoff. 

                President Burtness thanked the Leuzinger’s for attending and explained that he will go up and look at the lot.

                Carol Luezinger explained that they would like to put a two foot high cement wall in their front yard if nothing can be done.

                No action was taken by the Village Board.

                Parkview Community Club Bench Donation.   Schmidt and Burtness explained that they met with Candace from the Parkview Community Club.   Candace would like the bench at Purdy Park.  Discussion held on having it at the triangle grass area behind the concession stand.  Baars explained that that is the location for all of the signs for June Days.   Burtness also explained that that area has a lot of tire tracks which shows it is being used for a turnaround.  Discussion held on putting the bench near the tennis courts or directly behind the concession stand.   Motion by Tuffree, seconded by Morris to accept the donation of the bench from the Parkview Community Club with a location to be determined.  Motion carried.

                Scoreboard Repairs at Purdy Park.  President Burtness explained that the scoreboard has an electrical problem and has been fixed temporarily.   President Burtness further explained that the current agreement with the school requires the Village to pay for the cost for maintenance for the scoreboard.  President Burtness provided a quote for $5,415.00 to repair the electrical problem and to also install a power switch in the concession stand that will provide better access for turning the scoreboard on and off.   Motion by Tuffree, seconded by Schmidt to approve the bid to repair the scoreboard for $5,415.40 and to use funds from the Local Government Investment Program Public Works Account to pay for the repair.  Motion carried.

DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS

                Librarian Strunz explained that Marge Harker will be ending her term as a member of the Orfordville Library Board.  The Village Board is appreciative of her many years of service at the Library.  Motion by Howard, seconded by Morris to approve the Department Head Reports.  Motion carried.

VOUCHERS

                Motion by Tuffree, seconded by Howard to approve the vouchers with a check range of 40093-40159.  Motion carried.

ADJOURN

                Motion by Schmidt, seconded by Howard to adjourn at 7:57 p.m.  Motion carried.
